思い出
今から12年前の平成８年８月８日記念すべき店舗がオ－プンした。ラ－
メン店である。この設計依頼を受けた時、私は、新鮮なショックを受け
た。ラ－メン店の店主から、『うちの店をデザインしてくれ！』という言葉
が出たからである。思えば１３年前当時、『デザイン』という言葉は、今の
時代のように一般には使われてはいなかった。後に、このラ－メン店舗
は、建築専門誌『商店建築』でラ－メン店３店舗として特集が組まれた。
思えばラ－メン店が商業建築として認識されていない時代だった。
IN COMMEMORATION
This Ramen Shop was built 12 years ago, on the 8th day of the 8th month in the 8th year of the
Japanese Heisei period (1996). When I was asked to design the structure, I was surprised when
the owners said that the interior of the shop was already "pre-designed". I found out that this
was because Japanese ramen shops usually followed the same designs: had the same exterior
look, used the same interior colors, and the same graphics.
This design for a ramen shop went beyond the conventional. Thus, it was one of the three (3)
projects chosen by the Japanese "Specialty Architecture" magazine in their Commercial Shops
edition when they decided to feature pioneering ramen shops in Japan.
